Why Support the KFA?

Krishnamurti's vision was vast – to set man unconditionally free. To do that, he spoke for more than 60 years about the potential for the transformation of our everyday, self-referential consciousness. The mission of the KFA is to preserve those teachings so they can be shared with others; and to provide multiple ways for people to explore the myriad implications of Krishnamurti's work.

Preservation
We have made enormous strides in preserving a lifetime of teaching. Today, thanks to the generosity of the Grace Foundation, we have all the technology needed to create a digitized archive of every talk, as well as preserving original materials. But money is needed to use the equipment and create digitized versions of Krishnamurti's talks, letters, writings and dialogues. In turn, digitized materials can be output as books, videos, and CDs; and as fast as we can digitize them, we will make them available for free on the internet.

Dissemination
The KFA's vision for the power of digitization is exciting and doable! Already we have a large collection of materials that will be made available for free on a new website. As further materials get digitized, they will be added to the downloadable collection. In this way, people from all over the world will be able to access Krishnamurti's work through the internet.

Exploring the Teachings
Through the new website of free, downloadable teachings, people will be able to search by chronology, topic or location of the talks; and they will be able to create personalized collections of materials. For example, a professor teaching a course will be able to build materials to suit a curriculum outline and make that collection available to students for study and discussion. A teacher will be able to study Krishnamurti's work on education, or put together study materials for fundamental questions that a class of teenagers might explore. Anyone with time and interest will be able to search through the collection by key word or topic, to contemplate at their leisure.

Programs
The KFA is working hard to provide multiple options for exploring the implications of Krishnamurti's work.

  • Digitization is a top priority. The entire collection of Krishnamurti's teachings (video, audio, text) must be digitized so it can be shared and downloaded by anyone in the world who has internet access.
  • Dialogue weekends offer participants a way to explore specific themes and topics from the teachings. There are three opportunities a year to participate in these in-depth inquiries (February, August, and October). These three programs are offered in California; and also in British Columbia, Canada.
  • Publications are an important part of how Krishnamurti's work travels throughout the world. Krishnamurti Publications of America has an online bookstore with more than 300 titles. Currently the KPA is focusing on reissuing important series of audio and video recordings, taking old tape recordings, digitizing them, and reissuing them in CD and DVD formats. As well, the KPA's ongoing task is to produce foreign translations for books; and subtitled DVDs in many languages.
  • Education was a primary area of concern to Krishnamurti. He left an outstanding collection of decades of material on the importance of educating without conditioning. Oak Grove School (pre-K through grade 12) was founded by Krishnamurti and provides a unique educational environment for students, teachers, administrators and parents. His work is a foundation for the annual Teacher's Academy program (a 3-week summer residential program at Oak Grove School). This program will expand in 2008 and will be offered both in Ojai, California; and in British Columbia, Canada.
  • The Krishnamurti College Student Summer Study Program is another summer intensive offering college students a two-week residential format for exploring the teachings. Daily dialogues are augmented by study periods, and participants enjoy the benefits of summer in Ojai with trips to the nearby beaches, and campfire discussions in the summer evenings.
  • The Adult Summer Study-Intensive & Retreat Program is another program that takes advantage of the summer, giving participants a week in a secluded setting to deepen their inquiry. Both these summer study programs are being offered in Canada as well as Ojai.
