This is the 6th year that the Krishnamurti Foundation of America is offering this unique 9-day Study-Intensive Program that is designed to provide an opportunity for a deeply immersive study of the life-changing teachings of J.Krishnamurti, within an atmosphere of intense exploration and serious dialogical inquiry.
We use the shared dynamically interactive explorative approach of dialogue to inquire in-depth into the operation of the mind at the very roots of human consciousness. We will penetrate together into the normally opaque operations of the mind until we can "see" these hidden operations clearly revealed. We want to see how the mind works in order to understand what is preventing us from a transformation into an entirely new dimension of awareness.
Our Study-Intensive Program is designed to allow us to discover for ourselves what is causing all human suffering, all human conflict, the accumulated store-house of human disorders that keep us trapped collectively in fear, anxiety and confusions of every kind.
The aim of our work together is to take up the challenge that Krishnamurti is urging us to enter into; to understand what is preventing us from bringing about a wholistic mind that is fresh, clear and fully alive with penetrating energies.
Twice each day, in the morning and the early evening, we will enter together into a sustained intense inquiry. Within the dialogical process, we will explore potent questions that compel us to examine the very roots of human suffering, conflict, fear, and the acute sense of isolation and separation that affects all of our relationships, even our relationship to life itself.
The interactive-dialogue process will awaken a dormant dimension of the mind that has become numb and in-active through prolonged exposure to unexamined, conditioned beliefs and fears.
Once this dormant dimension of the mind is awakened, a new probing intelligence and creative energy is naturally born. Part of our work together is to gather this energy collectively, from this awakened dimension of the mind, so that it can intensify the momentum and penetrating movement of our exploration, which represents a shift from old rigid patterns to a creative approach to living. It is in this coming together of like-minded people interested in birthing a new mind, a new penetrating intelligence, that makes our program so effective.
We want to "see" with the active intelligence Krishnamurti called "insight," which he characterized as a sudden opening of a new dimension in the mind in which everything is revealed spontaneously, like a powerful light being suddenly lit in a darkened room.
We have also designed our program to help each participant to shift into a deeper dimension of "listening." Listening that is so inclusive, so sensitive and finely-tuned, that the listener ultimately disappears and there is just listening, and therefore no center to distort what is being perceived; only a direct immediate perception of everything that is unfolding inwardly and outwardly.
In addition to our 2 interactive-dialogues each day, we also watch a video of Krishnamurti in dialogue with scientists and educators. We stop the video whenever anyone has a question about any part of what is being said that may seem unclear, so we can discuss it together. We also encourage participants to read passages they select from a Krishnamurti book as an introduction to begin some of our evening dialogues. Both of these approaches help to illuminate Krishnamurti's teachings to deeper levels of understanding.

We offer an opportunity to enter into a shared exploration of J.Krishnamurti's teachings with like-minded people from around the world. There will also be time for quiet walks and meditation. Krishnamurti's living quarters in Pine Cottage are now open as meditation rooms.
The exquisite beauty of the Ojai valley offers us the perfect space in which to enter into this work together. Study with us in this beautiful, peaceful valley where Krishnamurti lived and taught. You will be surrounded by majestic mountains, lovely orange and avocado groves, and colorful blooming flowers. We will take lovely walks in Ojai and also into the beautiful surrounding canyons.
SPECIAL NOTE TO COLLEGE STUDENTS:
The Krishnamurti Summer Study Program is designed to address the special needs of college students. We are fully aware of the impersonal, institutional approach of most college educational experiences. For many college students there is also a great deal of confusion that arises as a result of the fragmented nature of treating different disciplines as “separate” islands of knowledge, and the insistence that learning is nothing more than memorization. In the Krishnamurti Summer Study-Intensive Program, you will have the opportunity to go very deeply into the core questions that can lead us directly to find out for ourselves how the mind actually works, and what is preventing us from making a leap into another more wholistic dimension of awareness.

The Tuition covers a lovely shared room at the Pepper Tree Retreat, all meals, the full-Program, all supporting materials, and round-trip transportation from Ventura, California, to Ojai. To hold your place in the Program, please pay half of the Tuition fee plus the Registration fee as a deposit. The program fills on a first-to-sign-up basis.
PROGRAM COORDINATOR AND CO-FACILITATORS:
Richard Waxberg is the Director of the Krishnamurti Summer and Winter Study-Intensive & Retreat Programs. He co-facilitates all the Study-Intensive Programs along with Professor Satish Telegar and Deborah Kerner.
Richard Waxberg has been a college teacher for over 20 years. He has taught and developed a variety of courses for Parsons School of Design in New York City and at the Rishi Valley School in India. He has also been involved in teacher training, and has designed special programs that help teachers to communicate with students from different cultural backgrounds. Richard is a practicing artist and novelist. He has studied and participated in Native American shamanic spiritual practices with traditional elders from several Native American tribes over a 10 year period. He has developed, directed and co-facilitated the Krishnamurti Study-Intensive & Retreat Programs for the last 6 years.
Dr. Satish Telegar, PhD, is a full-time professor of ancient and classical-to-modern world philosophy and religious studies at Towson University. He has taught at the Rishi Valley School in India and several prestigious universities in the USA. Satish also teaches special programs at Towson that include the teachings of J.Krishnamurti within the context of ancient and classical-to-modern world philosophical and spiritual traditions. He is a respected scholar of the Vedantic and Buddhist spiritual traditions and texts. He also directs and facilitates a Krishnamurti Dialogical Study Group at Towson University. Besides being one of the co-facilitators, Satish has played a vital part in the development of the Krishnamurti Study-Intensive & Retreat Programs for the last 6 years.
Deborah Kerner has taught numerous workshops in New York City, and has also taught a variety of artistic and design subjects at the Rishi Valley School in India. Deborah continues to have a highly distinguished career as a book designer, with clients such as Random House, Penguin Putnam, St. Martin's Press, Doubleday and HarperCollins. Deborah has also studied and participated in Native American shamanic spiritual practices with traditional elders from several Native American tribes. She is a practicing artist and poet. Besides being an active co-facilitator, Deborah has been instrumental in the development of the Krishnamurti Study-Intensive & Retreat Program for the last 6 years.

PROGRAM POLICIES: Krishnamurti Summer Study Program Policies
Registration and Payments: Participants are required to pay a 50% Deposit of the Tuition Fee along with a $35 Registration Fee, on acceptance into the Program, to hold their place in the Program.
The 50% balance of the Tuition Fee is due 30 days prior to the beginning of the Summer Study Intensive Program. If the participant cancels their participation in the Program before 30 days, they get half of their Deposit back, excluding the Registration Fee. If a participant cancels after 30 days before the Program starts, they are obligated for the full Tuition and Registration Fee.
We strongly recommend that every participant independently purchase trip-insurance from a number of carriers for around $80-$120 (www.insuremytrip.com), just in case the unlikely possibility arises that the Programs do not run, or that a participant must cancel for personal reasons.
Food: Vegetarian food only is served as part of the program. No meat is allowed at the Krishnamurti Education Center. We will make reasonable efforts to meet your dietary and other special needs. Please let us know in your application.
Transportation: The Ventura County Airporter shuttle from LAX to Ventura (Holiday Inn Express) charges $35 each way and discounts the fare if the round-trip is purchased ahead of time (www.venturashuttle.com). At no charge, the retreat will pick up participants at the Holiday Inn Express at 2:45PM the day your program begins, and will drop off participants to the Holiday Inn Express at 1:00PM on the day the program ends. At all other times, there is a $50 pick-up and a $50 drop-off charge. Arrangements must be made in advance.
We advise that you not make flight reservations until final confirmation of the program and your enrollment. If the program is cancelled for any reason, all course payments will be returned.
