Kindly be mindful of the following points regarding the forum. Dialogue is thinking together - it isn’t debate - and it's inquiring together without end point or agenda. People come into the dialogue from their own place of understanding, which is not going to be your place of understanding. We’re here to communicate together, learn together and gain insight into our own thought; to receive and share our observations, not impose our views on others. Address the comments in a polite, considerate manner. By all means, ask for clarification, but challenge the comment, not the commentator. We don’t know enough about the others to make those judgments and we’re here to learn about ourselves, not to correct another's perceived personality flaws. If a comment brings an emotional response, look at that. Do you feel the need to defend? To attack? Time for some looking inward. Self protection results in war. Besides, the war is in each of us. Stop that war, and the rest will take care of itself. (For some suggestions on the nature of dialogue, please click here)

Re: no title

Bruce, can you flush down the toilet the fact that someone mentioned what K thought about something, and look at what else is being said? It does not mean no listening, it just means you have different ideas of what meditation is.

Re: no title

No, no, no ideas. Firstly, I cannot flush down the toilet a fact, only ideas. If listening is taking place through comparison then it is no listening, no way getting passed that.

And secondly, if the meditator is present then meditation is not. This is not an idea, and so it cannot be flushed.

Re: no title

That's an image also. It might be dirty, that's not the point. Yes, I've talked a lot today, real talk, and the more I talk the more fired up I get, sorry.

That was for natura's deleted post.

Why does talking get you fired up?

Natura, you and I talked a little about meditation once. I still think driving is one of the best times to meditate.  :-)

Yes, that’s the same thing I … you so much for.

I remember and know your passion for that.

However, I still think, driving is yet not excluded but not the best place for meditation is. Though, it might be just individual preferences.

Well, I think it's individual preferences, and opportunities.

Not using the "L" word anymore I see smile

cause I got your drift

Re: no title

You are especially hot today, bruce. Isn’t that the affection of those recent events it LA?

I hope you are well after all, as well as your ‘Mitsubishi’ is squeaky clean as it always is.

Ah, I remember these conversations with you now. There can be listening, and yes, comparison and other thought is a valid part of communication. Drop what K said about listening and comparison and see....

The second part refers back to your idea that there has to be "nobody", but I have to go to bed, so good night.

Ok, it's back now. Its response is 54, not that it's important. You can flush it!

Why does talking get you fired up?

It's energy, talking about facts-false things seen as false, or true things-is just energy. It's not dfferent from when I don't talk, but with talking whatever is 'inside' gets expressed.

Anyone who uses the word "meditation" is still totally lost.

Well, you said "the more I talk, the more fired up I get" which is obviously not the same as when you are not talking. So you get a rush out of it.

The energy express itself,  the body gets energized. 'I' may get carried away, that's all.

A rush, kind of like others get from sex, or from winning the World Cup....

Re: no title

Not quite comparable. Winning a World Cup with just talking: what idiot gets a rush from that?

This 'carried away' can stop anytime. A player who wins the World Cup doesn't 'just' get carried away. And it's not an escape like sex can be.

Yep.  Ironically the one who constantly labels others as "pleasure seekers" is neck deep in his own little orgy of stimulation.

Well, sophisticated, joe, but if I’ve got you right.

The only problem of our human life is that all the joy we enjoy turns, sooner or later, to its own opposition, and we have to work out it.

So, eventually, there is still a point to seek for that needle.

oh, another juicy thread, you are all in good form today
I had to hunt back for your reply

yes...

maybe we could change the word meditation for something less loaded, less weighty
we could ummmm, say God instead, for example

just kidding, you get the idea

I like the word relaxation very much
and I like the word tension equally well as descriptive terms to help get a handle on what we are up against and what it is we need

how do you feel about those terms?
I know they are a little, humdrum, but perhaps they can help us get deeper into it.

for example, how do you best like to relax?
really, I am genuinely interested in this and I ask a lot of people this same question.
