And how many are not making any plans for the New Year, and so how many will be alone then?
Offline
alone is not a word of future. alone is not a superficial thing. so one standing in a group, at a party, can be also be alone. so alone is relationship. so planning is a word of future. the new year is time. if one, or better none stands alone, so what?

A very good friend and I were speaking today on the awareness of alone. Aware of alone when all the superficial is seen for what it is.

What is it to be alone? If you are accustomed to anything are you alone then? If you are accustomed to something then there is planning for the future which is looking for a difference from what you are accustomed to.And to be accustomed is to have identity which is 'you'. So in all that there is no aloneness, because 'you' are present. Alone is when there is no identity. Then there is no other situation which is different because you are not getting used to anything. Therefore there is no planning a great time then.

I understand that. I was asking who was actually alone on Christmas-Eve or Day. Not just talk about being secure and alone, and then run along and be with a group who otherwise might find you weird, or because you simply can't be alone when most people ARE SUPPOSSED to be together. So the image of 'I must be with somebody' makes you act, makes you seek others.

That was the night before Christmas Eve-I just happened to see it-I don't have a TV. I've even missed the last part, the conclusions.

But why be with a group on a certain day, which is suppossed to mean something when it doesn't? Is that aloness?

aloness has no dependency, opposite.

Bruce #11,One = unity. Two= duality. There is no escape.Look at it.The entire non history.See the cries of attachment. The blind groping in the dark. Never ending struggle.Heart ripping separation.Alone and aware of no struggle,no attachment and no division.

Well,if being with a group on a particular day has meaning to you then obviously you are not alone because you are then attached to some tradition, which means you are carrying something with you which denies aloneness. That which you hold onto makes you separate which makes you isolated not alone. So you are really escaping from your monotony.
However you may be really detached & therefore alone but may find yourself with some people who celebrate these things & just take part in some harmless things becuse of others. What do you say sir?

I understand that. I've understood it the first time. But why be with others who celebrate an illusion? That was my question. Not if it's possible to happen to be with others, but still be alone. That's understood.
But why be there in the first place? Doesn't your very presence reinforce their illusion?

But is two a reality? Or is it an invention of the mind?

So no dependency. Then why not be alone? Were you alone on that day?

You didn't answer my question, though: were you alone, or were you not? Physically, I mean.

My Christmas wish is that everyone will be physically alone on Christmas next year. It's a long shot I know, but I'm putting it out there.

I was surrounded by four generations; ages ranged from four years to eighty five years.
Of course, the oldest one sat, as per custom, at a separate table. This for the protection of the youngest, whom he pesters continually with philosophical questions.
Deke, short for Deacon, why do people stand on their head? Do you think we should stand for that. Whereupon the old fart stands up!
