Kindly be mindful of the following points regarding the forum. Dialogue is thinking together - it isn’t debate - and it's inquiring together without end point or agenda. People come into the dialogue from their own place of understanding, which is not going to be your place of understanding. We’re here to communicate together, learn together and gain insight into our own thought; to receive and share our observations, not impose our views on others. Address the comments in a polite, considerate manner. By all means, ask for clarification, but challenge the comment, not the commentator. We don’t know enough about the others to make those judgments and we’re here to learn about ourselves, not to correct another's perceived personality flaws. If a comment brings an emotional response, look at that. Do you feel the need to defend? To attack? Time for some looking inward. Self protection results in war. Besides, the war is in each of us. Stop that war, and the rest will take care of itself. (For some suggestions on the nature of dialogue, please click here)

What makes thought vanish?

There is only one thing which makes thought be gone with the wind: what is it?

Well, it's obvious, isn't it. Sudden death, of course!

Answer: Ignoring the question

Is that it? Ignoring is an action of thought, and just by ignoring something doesn't mean that the mind stops chattering.

Books, tv, other people do NOT stop thought from happening...

What's 'wrong' with thinking?... There is no bliss when thinking is taking place.

Re: What makes thought vanish?

There is no K, K does not exist.

I was wondering then, does Bruce exist, is there no Bruce?

Is Bruce only a thought?

What will make Bruce vanish?

damn, note to self:

need more bliss.

note to self-note:

ask Bruce how to get some?

note to self taking notes:

are you going to remember to read any of these later?

note to note to note to note to note to be or note to be

Re: What makes thought vanish?

Who's asking the question? Obviously the lack of bliss, which is thought... It's not about getting 'more' bliss, because bliss is bliss, not more, not less: if there an ounce of bliss, there is all the bliss your body can carry. All the bliss in the Universe is contained in one ounce of it.

Ha, we discussed this quite a bit!

I would say only if it is seen thought is detrimental to healthy living.

Much like the wind, thought is everywhere...so if you think you can make the wind(or thought) be gone, you are even dumber than I 'thought'.

Well, to be quite honest, and I've spent decades pondering this - I havn't the faintest idea.
It's beyond thought and therefore beyond knowing.

Beyond knowing. If you can know it would still  be thought.

Is that a concept, a vague idea which cannot be denied? If it's not, then how does it happen? How does thought vanish?

I didn't say 'I' can make it go: I've asked what does? You say nothing, that is your answer.

Yes, but what is it, and how does it happen? He who knows how will say it, because it's a fact to him, no need to speculate.

Now if only we could let everyone know that smoking is detrimental to healthy living, everyone would stop smoking immediately.  LOL. Brilliant!
