Kindly be mindful of the following points regarding the forum. Dialogue is thinking together - it isn’t debate - and it's inquiring together without end point or agenda. People come into the dialogue from their own place of understanding, which is not going to be your place of understanding. We’re here to communicate together, learn together and gain insight into our own thought; to receive and share our observations, not impose our views on others. Address the comments in a polite, considerate manner. By all means, ask for clarification, but challenge the comment, not the commentator. We don’t know enough about the others to make those judgments and we’re here to learn about ourselves, not to correct another's perceived personality flaws. If a comment brings an emotional response, look at that. Do you feel the need to defend? To attack? Time for some looking inward. Self protection results in war. Besides, the war is in each of us. Stop that war, and the rest will take care of itself. (For some suggestions on the nature of dialogue, please click here)

Re: An open thread for open people

Ah yes, talking camels. I spent one new year's eve in the following place. I was tooling my VW Van around Maroc the winter of '68 and stayed in Goulamine for about a fortnight. Those fairs were a gas.

You know, at the time the weed was legal in Maroc, and tobacco was not, so how was I to know that riding a camel whilst stoned would be a life changing experience?

Never read any tom robbins?  See you in a few weeks beans-- "jitterbug perfume" is a classic and "skinny legs and all" I believe had three inanimate objects traveling across the country together...oh the gossip!

Well, sds, it seems to me that sometimes the best response is to be quiet and do nothing other than observe how one feels....what do you think?

Alright, you do it… and what?

I know you are a timid one. Don’t be scared, however, I’m not challenging you. I love this line you start on.

Yes, I feel the same most of the time, that the best and most sane, intelligent response is just to be quiet, not to respond... And yes, just to observe what is going on within one.

Yet, what is more important, ‘not to respond’ at all or adequate reaction?

Yes, to me it seems that regardless of who it is I'm speaking with, there is always the chance they are not seeing reality, so what they say has to be taken with a grain of salt.

Even if they do, could they be able to transmit the reality in words to you directly?

Isn’t that significantly different to what you speak? Understanding versus mistrust?

Why should we always live in oppositions?
Why should we be just rational and say unemotionally without hard or soft feelings: “Why couldn’t we be productive?”, want we?
