Kindly be mindful of the following points regarding the forum. Dialogue is thinking together - it isn’t debate - and it's inquiring together without end point or agenda. People come into the dialogue from their own place of understanding, which is not going to be your place of understanding. We’re here to communicate together, learn together and gain insight into our own thought; to receive and share our observations, not impose our views on others. Address the comments in a polite, considerate manner. By all means, ask for clarification, but challenge the comment, not the commentator. We don’t know enough about the others to make those judgments and we’re here to learn about ourselves, not to correct another's perceived personality flaws. If a comment brings an emotional response, look at that. Do you feel the need to defend? To attack? Time for some looking inward. Self protection results in war. Besides, the war is in each of us. Stop that war, and the rest will take care of itself. (For some suggestions on the nature of dialogue, please click here)

death calls us all...

she had trouble moving around, the arthritis in her hips having won for today...she knew she had to go to the bathroom but the wood floor she had to cross to get to the door made her shake in fear.  I got the harness from the drawer we keep it in and helper her across the floor and down the two steps to the yard where she could do her business.  She will be seventeen this summer if she can manage a few more months...and if we can.  She never complains but you can see the pain grows worse over time. The hips of a lab, especially one who chases frisbees for ten years, tend to break down before their other organs do.

You can keep a record on a shelf and listen to it any day you want, but a relationship only exists as long as it does.

Re: death calls us all...

Its sad to see this I am sure, even though it is a natural part of life.

I hated to see my cat grow old and die.

Re: death calls us all...

I have seen many cats and a few other companion animals go over the years, some by car accidents, some naturally and some just disappear and you never know what happens.  Sophie is the first dog I have ever lived with for an enduring time.  She opened me up to dogs, I am blessed by the relationship.

Re: death calls us all...

It sounds like you have a beautiful relationship with Sophie.

You are loyal to her to the end, just like she is loyal to you to the end too.

This is a real relationship, a real connection.

Even in death, the parting of forms, the love and connection will still be there, it will not end.

Re: death calls us all...

well only in an abstract sense, sds...the form, sophie, will pass unto death just as surely as will we all.  The memory may remain and be spun in thought for a temporary feeling, but the relationship dies with the form.

Re: death calls us all...

if your dog is shaking in fear at crossing the floor to take a piss then perhaps it's time to hold her in your arms while she gets a lethal injection.
she's not likely to complain mate, a) she's a dog, b) she's a lab

life's a bitch sometimes.

Re: death calls us all...

Hmm, so you think/believe that the relationship ends with the form/with physical death.

I am under the assumption/belief that it still goes on, continues.

I do not know the answer, but that is just my belief at the moment.

Laughing at RJ's attempt at helping.

There is probably some truth in what you write Mate, but please show some compassion and respect for Joe and his beloved Dog Sophie.

Yes, she might just be a dog but his relationship to her is the same as to another loved one. He is losing a loved one.

Yes, life can sure be a bitch at times. I surely agree with that statement.

well mate, it is not that easy, as life is a bitch sometimes...sophie has been with my wife for all of her sixteen years and me for only four, so it is not really my call.  I am just reporting what I see today.   We will go for runner carpets to cover the slippery parts of the floor for now and delay the call for a bit more time...

Hey Sycophant, I guess you didn't want to keep the peace with me after all
no problemo

If it were legal I would say the same thing about his, or your, mother.

Re: death calls us all...

I neither want to keep the peace with you nor break it. I am just being myself on here.

If you want to call me on my shit, that is fine with me and if you dont want to, that is fine with me too.

But deep down we are still friends and at peace, I wouldnt have it any other way.

I respect you and many of your posts are very insightful, perceptive. I especially enjoyed reading your take on David Deida, and after some careful thought and consideration I have to agree with your take on him.

This is where the rubber meets the road.

This is not just an abstract thing, but is a messy, practical thing you have to deal with. It is a physical fact.

I thank you Joe for sharing and my heart goes out to you, your wife and your dog in this trying time.

Wishing you nothing but strength, love, and peace during these trying times.

Sorry you and your wife and Sophie have to go through this, Joe, though we know "that's life". At least you are in a place (or I believe you most likely are) to make the right decisions, whatever they may be.

ugh! such shameless obsequiousness
do you have to get up and walk to the fridge or do you just ooze between places?

as for the calling you on your shit,
well, thanks for the offer but I decline this exciting job opportunity and will leave the position for someone more...

oh God, too many words, not enough space...

actually you know what, as a one-time only special offer here is that very 'call'

when you get up in the morning,
take a dump, all at once

consider your work for the day now done
that is your contribution
what you have to offer

now, be silent, be still,
stop

look at the slimy, crawling creature you are familiar with as your own mind
as if it were a dangerous snake, in your house, in your bed
in you

don't make a move

just quietly, so very quietly that no-one on this green earth but you knows you are doing it
beg for help, for mercy
ask whatever it is that passes for divine intervention in what remains of your cerebral cortex that is not completely corrupted by who knows how many decades of self-conditioning and delusion to free you from this frightful corruption, this despicable pretence of personality, this sickness for which you have no cure.

and then wait some more.

indefinitely wait

Re: death calls us all...

Yes, death calls us all, but how do we approach it, do we approach it living our lives fully, wholly every moment like sophie the lab, or the lucy the cat?  Or do we say,"what happens happens" and fold our arms and stare into space....Just wondering.  Hiya Joe.  Give sophie a hug from sach and me.
