Kindly be mindful of the following points regarding the forum. Dialogue is thinking together - it isn’t debate - and it's inquiring together without end point or agenda. People come into the dialogue from their own place of understanding, which is not going to be your place of understanding. We’re here to communicate together, learn together and gain insight into our own thought; to receive and share our observations, not impose our views on others. Address the comments in a polite, considerate manner. By all means, ask for clarification, but challenge the comment, not the commentator. We don’t know enough about the others to make those judgments and we’re here to learn about ourselves, not to correct another's perceived personality flaws. If a comment brings an emotional response, look at that. Do you feel the need to defend? To attack? Time for some looking inward. Self protection results in war. Besides, the war is in each of us. Stop that war, and the rest will take care of itself. (For some suggestions on the nature of dialogue, please click here)

Matter of perception: if an entity feels it exists, at some point it will feel hurt. If not, not.

To Stump: BAhahaha....

To brucester: Not necessarily, b.

Oh, yes. The entity must get hurt: there is no avoidance of hurt, if a perception of an entity is in place.

Once again, where there is no center there is no entity, if we are to use words properly.

There is no psychological center. Does this sound better for ya?

Aw Stumps, it's the wrong time of year for those leaves to be turning so fast! smile

P.S. Thanks for the imaginative use of imagery - it really helps to elucidate your point. wink

Extremely curious to learn much more about that; even if all others descriptions, explanations, arguments etc., would be cut till close to zero.

You could kill yourself, get rid of your body and mind. But then there is no guarantee about what's on the other side. So you want to quieten them, right?

Look, night,
first you make a statement that you are able to get rid of your mind killing the body and then you say there is no guarantee on the other side.
If you don’t know exactly what is on the other side why do you state you are losing your mind after killing your body? You see it’s a contradiction, isn’t it.
You are making so easy the question of all the religious questions, if there is something after death of body.

Well, don’t let kill ourselves, rather find out the matter about silence which you think is similar with ‘doing nothing’, I suppose. I’m I right?

So, can you be completely silent?
If you stop talking you see inner pictures and perceive inner voices, talking, arguing, right?

So can you stop all that?

Let me see if I can clarify. For me living is about being in the middle of the storm and stay with it. Not seeking the storm. Not avoiding the storm. Just be with it when the storm arrives. Silently stay with the storm. Now it seems to me you are seeking silence and trying to avoid the storm. To use an analogy, you seem to seek a smooth breeze, or even no breeze at all, and do not like the turbulence. That's all I was asking.

So to answer you question: one can be totally silent by being totally with the storm in the present. The storm may stop or still continue. You don't know. Yet there is a quality of silence there. Living/life is the other side of silence anyway, inseparable.

Yes, I think you have made yourself perfectly clear for me. I’m several tens of years of my life in this business, not to mention previous incarnations, and can see any nuance in following you.

Still, I’m drawing your absolutely special, rivet attention to this particular point again:

You say, ‘silently stay with the storm’.

And I ask you, can you practically do that? Can you really stay silent or you just think you are silent; or you just think you have to be silent?
Do you see the subtle differences?

night wrote:

No, it’s not directly like that.

Those are not exactly things for verbal explanations, but say, I rather prepare my inner conditions for silence to come upon me, so I can merge into it.
Yes, I know this naughty question, who is that to prepare themselves etc., anyway.

night wrote:

Saying ‘breeze’ you introduce the body.
Yes, the body is a significant part of that stormy ocean and you have to understand how to deal with it. That’s inevitable, otherwise no silence; you may sleep on the nail-board or in special bathtub with no gravitation – dream well, but forget the silence.

night wrote:

Well, well, well, my friend. I see it differently. Actually, you have to know all about storm in yourself, however. That’s the only way to approach to silence and know if the silence has any qualities or not.

OK, I’m not provoking you to controversy. Either we see it or not.
I’m generally not very much for fruitless verbal skirmish, but my question above still remains.

Re: You cannot go to it

To "silently stay with the storm" means to be totally present. Am I always present? No. There are habits to the contrary. There are moments of total presence, and moments of collapse/absence/withdrawal. Presence at all times is an emerging quality, as it requires energy and a life in order. This is one aspect of growth, to remain present in all situations.

That’s it, night

And that’s exactly the very point to invest our life energy as much as we can.

Honesty outside is a sign of being honest inside.
Absolutely necessary precondition for spiritual success.

People are fooling the others way to often are fooling themselves too; mostly also without even being aware of that. No chance for truth, never.

Much love to you

Yes, and then once those false images are built, to maintain them uses a lot of energy.

Using that four-letter word again I notice, eh natura ;-)

You have touched a very hot point right now.
I’m just about to pick it up in the thread ‘Addiction’.
Would be happy to see you there too.

There is some unexplainable magic in those four-letters that takes away the breath from the female soul, isn’t it?

…well, I know, you would never admit…

lol -- it's more like this -- What happens when people start throwing the word "love" around in a sentimental way? The next thing you know, they can easily get lost in their own sentimental ideas  :-) Watch out, you could be the next one here....

Beans,
less 'they'
more 'me, us and I'

if you have self-appointed yourself as 'commentator' I am here to give you the good news that your services are no longer required.
