Kindly be mindful of the following points regarding the forum. Dialogue is thinking together - it isn’t debate - and it's inquiring together without end point or agenda. People come into the dialogue from their own place of understanding, which is not going to be your place of understanding. We’re here to communicate together, learn together and gain insight into our own thought; to receive and share our observations, not impose our views on others. Address the comments in a polite, considerate manner. By all means, ask for clarification, but challenge the comment, not the commentator. We don’t know enough about the others to make those judgments and we’re here to learn about ourselves, not to correct another's perceived personality flaws. If a comment brings an emotional response, look at that. Do you feel the need to defend? To attack? Time for some looking inward. Self protection results in war. Besides, the war is in each of us. Stop that war, and the rest will take care of itself. (For some suggestions on the nature of dialogue, please click here)

Re: Zen and K

one of my favorites hangs on the wall here in my shop/study area where I type this....it goes like this---zazen isn't about blissing out or going into an alpha brainwave trance...it is about facing who and what you are every goddamn moment.  Kind of what K was on about as well...

incidentally, after the rains we had this morning toad stepped out onto the rocks surrounding the koi pond right outside my shop door and sat there for some time.  I think his hole filled with water during the heavy rain but he wasn't talking.

Actually, I do not mind blissing out and going into an alpha/trance state at all!!!
Who would not?  I just wonder....
not just in zazen  (I do not do too long, but 10 min will do),
but intimacy of having sex literally
and also with nature and with this amazing planet/universe.
I feel alive..  and...well, find "I am" (I am that I am)...
I guess perhaps when I go in and out of it.. to confirm it...
such is the privilege of being a human, I take.

Oh, actually, I just started Aikido and I am in bliss there as well - believe it or not
That is powerful!  I can not but appreciate "aliveness" and intimacy/communication
that is like a dialogue at different dimension ( the level of compassion - believe it or not)
I have never known that!  (So, another bliss/appreciation there!)

and... after all, that may tie in to what you say,
"it is about facing who and what you are every goddamn moment"
why?  Because in that bliss, I get the energy, feel charged up, or melt into one...
feel connection to the source (whatever you call it)
the source of compassion and wisdom, and face life with LIFE! (absolute)

Well....
maybe I said too much LOL

(I do these dialogue at my "new hero's journey" blog (if you are interested)
so I leave it there)

Kio

PS I wish you show me the picture of that toad
that would be poetic to go with your comment.
BTW, Do you have blog?
I just started it and finding it fun.
It is like a self-dialogue - of me and ME  - and I like inserting some pictures/videos
you are most welcome to visit mine as there is nobody subscribed or commented at my blog
you will find it perhaps by googling "kiyoshi suzaki" + "new hero's journey"

Hey RJ!  You are from NZ!
I go there every year for the last 15-16 years. Hard to count now...
Just returned in end of March after 3 months cruising in my mini-van, which I keep in Huntly north island at my friend's house.  BTW, He is a tree farmer.

Anyway you sound like you know Buddhism when you say that.
I am curious to hear what you know if you will and tell me what happens if I grow out of that.

Thanks, and yes I want to grow up...
yet keep exploring this wonderful life! But don't want to grow old!
Kio

PS, where do you live in NZ anyway?
Do you surf, dive, or flyfish trout? I do.

Kio, if you or anyone can clue me in to how to post a picture I have stored on my computer, I shall post toad on rocks for you.  I have tried before to do it but had no success.

Re: Zen and K

hi joe, it's not possible to post a picture directly from your computer,
it has to be on the internet somewhere already, and with a direct address to the image,
because i see on your website the pictures have no 'properties'.. probably because of copyright.

no i see now, your website has images with flash-player.. very nice effects.

I could be mistaken, but it seems like the photo must be available via url (http://....), then referenced using the "[img]tag" (click on that, below the text entry box, for an explanation of how to use it. It's pretty simple: just place after it, and voilà! :-)

Kirsten from Netherland!

I just met few Dutch people at Malibu yesterday after diving..
talking of several years I flew in to Skipol and to Eindhoven etc.... perhaps 50 times.

I remember there was a beautiful blond lady from Drachten where Philips makes shavers...
hmmmm  I wonder if you are from that area.... LOL good memories...

She made a presentation to top management... re: what people at shop floor can do in my seminar there...and I gave a big hug an deverybody clapped their hands.... that was a start of some transformation that happened in that company....

then I got into the political thing and left..  It was around 1999 and I went into Zen, meditation etc. big time.... everything is connected from one to the other and that was good..

-- a small story of a frog who used to jump around the world and made lots of splashes in the pond.  I hate bureaucracy!

Welcome!!! Kirsten
R U blond?  LOL  You may consider posting your picture, perhaps?  (no offense, you know..)

Hey RJ!
I am curious to hear what you know if you will and tell me what happens if I grow out of that.

something along the lines of growing the balls to be yourself
K would say something about lighting yourself up

in any case, you get the idea

I'll do the up close and personal if and when I get to know you ok,
I don't get into bed on the first date.

Oh c'mon
Look at the spirit not the form, pls!
But I may also say that there may be a lot of BS floating around...
Have you read Daisetz Suzuki?

anyway, quite funny that you were in Drachten...
Ahh, I remember visiting a zen center in Amsterdam perhaps 15 or more yrs ago.  A woman I met, when I asked, "what is Zen for you?" She said "Appreciation of life."  Hmmm Nice! Still remember that.

LOLOL

Thanks (?!) for that!  But just so you know that I do not have much depth...
at least that is how I feel here and now.
what you see is what you get.

Hmm... what I may mean is (see  I am shallow)...
I cannot carry many bags.  To heavy!

Does that mean I get into bed on the first date..?
I can give a rather recent story but ... may not be appropriate here.

(right, I have some depth left in me still.  Ha!)

I gather you are wonderfully wealthy (the travel, long holidays, diving etc.)
so what do you do to redress that imbalance? (aside from pretending to be superficial)

ok, so I would have to post it to somewhere first before it would be available.  Where would you post something like that to give it a url?
