Kindly be mindful of the following points regarding the forum. Dialogue is thinking together - it isn’t debate - and it's inquiring together without end point or agenda. People come into the dialogue from their own place of understanding, which is not going to be your place of understanding. We’re here to communicate together, learn together and gain insight into our own thought; to receive and share our observations, not impose our views on others. Address the comments in a polite, considerate manner. By all means, ask for clarification, but challenge the comment, not the commentator. We don’t know enough about the others to make those judgments and we’re here to learn about ourselves, not to correct another's perceived personality flaws. If a comment brings an emotional response, look at that. Do you feel the need to defend? To attack? Time for some looking inward. Self protection results in war. Besides, the war is in each of us. Stop that war, and the rest will take care of itself. (For some suggestions on the nature of dialogue, please click here)

An open thread for open people

Beans wrote: "Hi sds, it can be a challenge, can't it, understanding one's body/brain responses to the many types of input on this forum?  :-)"

Hello my friend Beans.

Yes, it is very challenging indeed.

I am having a hard time meeting most on here.

Luckily I have found a sweet soul in you that understands me a little.

Bruce seems very sincere too and willing to look and discuss.

There are a few more, but not too many that are really open and willing to look.

Oh well, it is just as fine to read here and there and keep mostly to myself.

If you are willing, I would love to hear more about what you have to say to what you wrote above. It sounds like you might have some interesting takes on this.

Hmm, starting a clan, sds, and calling it open?  What hypocricy!

Well, sds, it seems to me that sometimes the best response is to be quiet and do nothing other than observe how one feels....what do you think?

It's more of an invitation to those who want to wallow in self glorification and pity, it sounds like, so count me out, obviously. ;-) And sorry to break your bubble.  Oops!

Its okay Pearl. You can say whatever you want, and you are entitled to your opinions. I have nothing but respect for you.

Yes, I feel the same most of the time, that the best and most sane, intelligent response is just to be quiet, not to respond... And yes, just to observe what is going on within one.

But for fun, most of the time, I ignore that knowing, and respond anyways....

No clan, no followers, no group. Just an open thread for whoever wants to say anything they want.....

A thread started with a conclusion....how original!  "I know who is open and who isn't....now let me start a thread to validate my bullshit!" lol

Yes, that happens too - for fun, but if not careful, the next thing we know we're contributing to the fray and continuing the pile up of circular posts...

Thats one way of looking at it.

Nothing wrong looking at it that way or any way.

Back to the same problem Beans. If one talks, one gets into it on here, into a mess. The only logical thing it seems to do is stay quiet it seems.

But then what is the point of a forum, if not to talk?

I don't know sds, is the point to talk for the sake of talking?

To me, standing alone means looking for oneself...considering and then throwing out the opinions of others, clearing one's head and just looking -- you?

Exactly the same Beanji. It is not always easy to do, but thats what it means to stand completely alone.

:-) I'd like to hear your further thoughts on this one, if you have any at the moment, sdsji.

I have seen that I like to hear the opinions of others, like it matters.

But in reality, it doesnt matter at all, what another thinks.

All that matters is if I have seen into it or not.

It is the hardest thing to not look to others for psychological help and to rely totally on ones self. To be a light unto oneself sums up K's teachings pretty well. One has to have the courage to be ones own disciple and guru at the same time. It seems few can do that. Including myself at times.

Re: An open thread for open people

Yes, to me it seems that regardless of who it is I'm speaking with, there is always the chance they are not seeing reality, so what they say has to be taken with a grain of salt.

Sometimes I stop the conversation, go away and look into something, or clear my head. Feeling that there is no reason to feel the need to continue a conversation that is just engraving deeper grooves in the ego.

Re: An open thread for open people

Rumi wrote a piece that applies here - maybe someone knows it - something about a merchant who realized he did not have to respond at once.

Re: An open thread for open people

Well, are you peeps sure you are using that term in its 'urban slang' sense?

Re: An open thread for open people

I guess I was meaning it in the 'non-urban slang' sense, then.

I do find it ironic that a can of baked beans is chatting with people, and vice versa. ;-)

beanZ, were I to put up my avatar, that can of baked beans would be conversing with a camel...
