KFA Executive Director

“A radical change in the consciousness of our human family is urgently needed, to bring about the flowering in goodness of the human race, and prevent us from harming each other and our planet. To me the teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti have great relevance to bring about that change.”
--Jacob Sluijter, Executive Director of the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
Jacob (or Jaap, as we refer to him) was born in the Netherlands in 1965. At the age of sixteen he borrowed the book Awakening of Intelligence by Krishnamurti from the local library. He had no idea what the book was about, but the title intrigued him. According to Jaap, “I began reading in the evening and did not stop until I finished it the next morning. At the time I felt stunned and amazed; how was it possible that someone could so accurately describe the workings of my intimate inner-life, layout the possibility for freedom in consciousness and point to something sacred outside of the existing belief structures?”
While still a teenager, Jaap began organizing events to study K's work with others. After completing his masters degree in mechanical engineering he moved to England and worked for ten years at the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust (KFT), first as a respected member of the high-school faculty of the Brockwood Park School, and then as director of the Foundation.
In 2002 Jaap married Kristy Lee, an American citizen, who also worked at the KFT. Kristy is an alumna of two Krishnamurti schools— Oak Grove School and Brockwood Park School. Kristi is now a member of the HS faculty at Oak Gove School. In 2004, Kristy and Jaap moved to Ojai, the home of the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
Jaap has successfully worked as a freelance project manager and mechanical design engineer in the medical, musical and 3D film production fields. Jaap has also studied the nature of communication as a way to further explore the works of K. Jaap has travelled to share this with people around the world.
For over 60 years, K talked about the predicament of humanity, freedom and the sacred in an uncompromising way with unprecedented clarity and dept. As Executive Director, Jaap is committed to make K's work widely available and to preserve them for future generations.
